A highlight of this year’s Geneva Motor Show will be the debut of AkzoNobel Car Refinishes revolutionary new stickerfix™ repair system in front of a critical but highly knowledgeable international motor press. The easy-to-understand do-it-yourself repair kit will be sharing a stand with the Swiss Speciality concept car manufacturer Rinspeed, which is itself unveiling its new electric concept car created specially for urban commuters with the clever name, UC?.
The only product of its type on the market because of its unique technology, stickerfix™ is a state-of-the-art, high quality adhesive DIY repair system which uses patented paint technology in combination with a specially developed vinyl sticker. The system makes it possible for owners to protect vulnerable areas of their cars such as door edges, and to easily repair minor nicks and scratches by simply applying the ultra-thin adhesive foil over damaged sections of their vehicle.
“But it would be wrong to think of it just as simple quick-fix solution,” explains Phil Coady, Director of Marketing Europe, Middle East and Africa at AkzoNobel Car Refinishes in Sassenheim. “Look closer and you will see that StickerFix™ is a technologically advanced product that is result of years of development in AkzoNobel’s hi-tech labs. It may look simple, but that is its secret because it provides protection against corrosion, uses the same high quality paint as in professional repairs.”
Already launched in ten countries across Europe several hundred bodyshops are now selling stickerfix™ and the process is simple. When a customer brings a vehicle into a bodyshop for repair, the repair specialist can easily match the vehicle’s color and spray it onto an adhesive vinyl sheet while carrying out the repair job. After adding a clearcoat to the vinyl sheet and then cutting it into specific shapes, the customer is given a DIY repair system which can later be applied to any damaged or vulnerable areas.
“stickerfix™ is a unique in the global vehicle repair market,” adds Phil Coady. “Not only does it tick all the boxes in terms of technology and color matching it also has a strong emotional appeal precisely because it is so innovative. It gives vehicle owners a completely new way to keep their vehicles looking their best, with custom color-matched stickers that are practically invisible.”
Exhaustively tested to meet AkzoNobel’s exacting technological and environmental standards, stickerfix™ scores top marks when it comes to adhesion, car wash and steam cleaning resistance, as well as resistance to salt spray, stone chips, gasoline and weathering. It has proven superior to touch-up pens in real-life tests, has excellent shelf-life and can be easily removed from a vehicle by applying heat with a normal hairdryer. The product is also highly sustainable, unlike touch-up pens, as no volatile organic solvents are released during the application.
Small wonder then that this simple yet highly innovative and environmentally-friendly product from technology leader AkzoNobel was chosen by Rinspeed to partner its groundbreaking commuter vehicle UC? in Geneva.
